Budget Friendly Decorating

There is no shortage of houses for rent in College Park, GA. As you narrow your search for rental properties in College Park, you begin thinking about how you’re going to decorate your new home. You may be on a budget, but you can still have a fabulous rental home with functional decor that matches your personality and style. Here are some ideas to help you with home decor on a budget.

Add Color

Paint is an inexpensive way to liven up a boring room. Be sure to check your landlord’s policy on painting. Some will say it is fine with no restrictions and others will give the okay as long as you paint the walls white again before you move out. Then, there are those who won’t allow you to paint at all. There are no exceptions to this rule.

If your landlord doesn't allow paint or you just don’t want to do it, there are plenty of other ways to add color to your home. You can use vibrant throw pillows, colorful armchairs, stylish rugs, photography and artwork throughout the living room. You also can cover up those boring beige blinds with some lively drapery.

Repurpose and Refresh Old Items

You may want new furniture for your living space. That can be quite expensive so before you throw out your old furniture, think about new ways you can use it. If you have a tired old sofa, adding a new slipcover will give it a totally different look. Pop a fresh coat of paint on an old cabinet or bookcase. Or if you’re lacking storage, use salvaged and repainted wood to create wall shelving.

Don’t have any items at home to repurpose? Head to your local thrift shop and go treasure hunting. The thrift shop holds many gems that may be perfect with a new coat of paint, and the finds are usually reasonably priced. If you like to haggle, check out the garage sales in your neighborhood as those sellers are often willing to reduce the prices of their items, especially if you ask nicely.

Frugal Kitchen Fixes

You might not find your dream kitchen when looking at rental properties in College Park, but a few frugal fixes can transform a bad kitchen into a beautiful one. If you’re lacking counter space for food prep, consider buying a stylish moveable island opposed to a built-in piece.

Should you be fortunate enough to have some natural light in your kitchen, use folded tea towels to make a simple, inexpensive window treatment. Mount the towels on tensions rods and you're all done.

Change the Lighting

You don’t have to settle for outdated lighting fixtures. Lights are easy to replace and can make an older home look new again. If you do swap fixtures, be sure to hang on to the originals and reinstall them when you move out. Then you’ll have your new fixtures to use again in your next home.

If changing light fixtures is beyond your skill level, pick up some low-cost lamps and add them to rooms as needed.

Home decor on a budget doesn’t have to be difficult. There are plenty of easy, inexpensive ways to make your rental property feel like home. One thing to keep in mind is you are living in a rental house so you cannot make permanent modifications without the permission of your landlord.
